A spiritual medium is a medium that can connect with the spirit world and helps others communicate with it. Spiritual mediums are much like other mediums. They use physical or mental forms of connection with with spirit world, including clairvoyance, clairsentience, and clairaudience to communicate with the spiritual plane. However, being a spiritual medium is a bit of a higher calling than just being a psychic medium or a medium. Spiritual mediums don’t seek to elevate themselves, but those around them.
Here are some tips for those that feel called to be a spiritual medium:
1. Feeling overwhelmed and as though you want to quit is normal.
There will be days when things seem downright impossible and you’ll want to quit. Just remember that this is normal. It’s okay to have a bad day, it’s okay to give a not so great reading. Just remember, you became a spiritual medium because you felt called to it. Everyone has off days. Just get up the next day and try again.
2. Being a spiritual medium is a journey.
Most callings are a journey. They’re more than a 9-5 job. They are something you live and breathe. What you do as a spiritual medium, the readings and developing your skills, is just a small part of this journey. Following your heart and committing to your calling will lead you down difficult roads of self-discovery, allow you to meet people that will inspire you, open your heart to the spirit world in ways you never thought possible, and will help you become a loving and more understanding human being.
3. Remember it’s not about you!
And we’re not talking about the idea that you think you’re wonderful or that you think about yourself all the time, but more the idea that the work isn’t about you. Surrender to the calling. Try to look at it from the perspective of allowing the spirit world a new voice, rather than being used by the spirit to send a message. Take the you out of the equation.
4. Take time for yourself.
You can’t be the best you can be if you stretch yourself too thin. Remember that giving readings requires energy and energy has to be rebuilt. Listen to your body so that you can be the best you can be.
5. It’s okay to say no.
You don’t have to take every client, you don’t have to work with everyone that comes your way. You can say no, and in fact you should say no whenever you feel that a request is not right. Honor yourself, your feelings and your truth. Learning how to say no is part of the journey, an important part.
6. Life outside your work will affect your work.
Your life outside your work requires energy just as your work does. You must find a balance between the two. Sometimes you may have to stop giving readings so that you have the energy to get through a crisis at home, and that’s okay. It’s more important to focus family than work, even when work is a calling. The spirit will understand. Finding balance is another important part of the journey.
7. You are allowed to charge money.
Many doctors are called to heal, pastors are called to lead, teachers called to teach… but all of them accept pay in return for their services. It’s okay to charge for your services. Charging for your services doesn’t make you a bad person.
8. Don’t try to be perfect, just try to be you.
There are lots of famous people in all walks of life, but you must remember that they are just as human and fallible as you are. Don’t try to be someone else, be you. When you allow yourself to be comfortable, then you are more able to relax and let spirit speak through you. Let your heart lead you through a reading. Trust those gut feelings, they will never lead you wrong.
I am feeling holy.
