An astrologer is someone who practices astrology. Though many may refer to these folks as astrologists, the preferred term among practitioners is astrologer. The study of astrology is vast and spans different styles of astrology as well as different eras of practice. It must be remembered that people have been gazing into the skies and looking to the stars for guidance and inspiration since the beginning of time and therefore astrology is just about that old!

What Is An Astrologer?

The primary tool of an astologer is the astrological chart. It provides them with a map of all the different connections in the life of a person and allows them to chart how things will influence people and events in the future. It’s important to remember that astrology is not the action of predicting a future in which we have no control, but rather the interpretation of a map that shows one path to the future. We are always able to make changes that will then alter both the route and destination that the map provides us. A good astrologer will not try to box you in to a particular future, but instead alert you to possible problems and upcoming opportunities that your chart suggests are in your future so that you can be prepared.

To become an astrologer you will want to determine what sort of astrology you will want to practice. There are many different types of astrology, some of which have fallen out of practice but are still viable options. The most popular forms of astrology are:

Chinese Astrology
Horary Astrology
Horoscopic Astrology
Natal Astrology
Indian Astrology
Sidereal Astrology
Babylonian Astrology
Celtic Astrology
Hellenistic Astrology
Egyptian Astrology

No matter what type of astrology you decide you want to practice, the basic steps to becoming an astrologer do not change. The first step, once you have felt your calling, is to create your Astrological Conception Chart which will look at the influences that will affect your career as an astrologer and help you make vital decisions in your future. When building your astrological conception chart you will want to ask yourself some important questions such as:

“Is this what I want to do for the rest of my life?”
“Do I want to spend my time helping others deal with problems in their daily life?”
“How will I earn my living as an astrologer?”
“Will I be self-disciplined enough to handle self-employment?”

Once you have worked through these answers with your chart, you will want to look at different types of educational training. There are many resources available both online and in bookstores. Plus there are meet-ups where you can get together with other people interested in astrology. You can also study with someone and receive formal training. Before you begin working on your education, however, you’ll want to make sure you have a copy of your own birth chart, that you know the symbols for the signs, planets and aspects, that you know how to read an ephemeris, and that you are following the transits. These things are all crucial in astrology and the more familiar with them you are the easier learning will be!

Once your education is well underway, you’ll want to consider an apprenticeship. This will give you the opportunity to learn from a more experienced astrologer while still working with people other than your friends and family. Experience is one of the most important things you can get while becoming an astrologer.

When you’re through with your apprenticeship you’ll be able to get started on your own and will need to build a business, generate clients, and set your own rates! You can learn more about Astrology by visiting the rest of the section and make your decision from there.
